I am such a clever sausage, I know what I can make felicity for christmas that takes lots of time and effort but very little money and that she will love, candied frut!

All i need now is a few more interesting fruits (as well as the apples and oranges i already have) and a pretty box. £5 should do it.

People at acro kept joking that I have a teeny tiny pain tolerance because when James pinched my thigh I yelped like a boy (I would say like a girl, but there was also much pointing out that girls are supposed to have higher pain tolerances).
THE BRUISES ARE 4" ACROSS!
Ow. Don't care if I'm a wimp. Hurts.

Also, am somewhat at the limit of how much pain I can take anyway. Stomach is not my friend and it thinks I would like to double over now.

Oh, but i managed to do a head stand (with support to balance) for like a minute without fainting afterward. Iron tablets win! Also, James taught us how to position your arms properly and when done that way it is not ludicrously painful on the top of your head, turns out I was not being a wimp, I just managed to find the most painful way possible to do them before.

Experiment Report

Today is a Monumental day for Science.

We shall discover the properties of a body infused with a 5% mix of caffeine infused in sherry.

Method:
We take a blob of caffeine about this big: |--------|
We mix in a small cup of sweet sherry
Everyone in the room pronounces "For Science!!11!!"
The sherry gets drunk

Results:
after 10 seconds: It's delicious, like sherry coffee. Very Irish.
after 30 seconds: I would possibly prefer the caffeine and sherry separately
after 1 minute: Hmm, my headache is still present.
after x minutes at which point i got bored with writing this: Caffeine mix good with stuff.

Conclusion:
Caffeine mixes well with sherry.

edit: After some minutes later: The headache is gone after two days of pain! Caffeine sherry WIN!

Facinating. Livejournal feels the need to remind me about my own birthday but does not feel the need to remind me about siobhans. How irritating. Also is my mums birthday on tuesday, and i have not yet made let alone sent her present. She may get it some time mid november.
Also my sister is asking how her christmas dress is coming along. Its not! Want to test the pattern with my virtual program, but cant work it yet :(

So, it was the last screwing up that the university health service shall do to me. Went in today to see my doctor and was told that she only works 3 days a week, and so i can only get to see her on a Tuesday. They then said that there were no appointments with her for at least the next 3 weeks.
I have just changed doctors. They were very nice, apparently they can also usually do appointments the same day.

Also, i tried to apply for money from the government, any money would do. So, I tried to get housing benefit. Turns out that Andrew really really does count as a partner and no i cannot have any money without committing fraud. I also tried to get something called the Future Job Fund, which pays you to volunteer if you have been unemployed for more than 12 months. Apparently you are only eligible if you have been unemployed AND claiming job seekers allowance for 12 months, so I can't have that. I also can't get job seekers as I am not actually looking for a job (what with the being sick and all) and if you don't turn up to an interview they take it away, so the first interview i vomit through they will remove all my money. What to do?

look what i found on the bbc!

If they put this in Edinburgh airport then I will be refusing to fly i think.

Also, the university is an ass and I have to re-apply via ucas, which means writing a whole new personal statement and finding all the random bits of info that I have forgotten about or don't have.

Also i has major mouth to brain filter today, and managed to come out with "well you are hot enough to get away with it" to my hot co-worker. Awkward silence followed...

In other news, here is a recipe for when you are bored:

Playdough

1 cup of plain flour
1 tsp of cream of tartar
½ cup of salt
1 tbs of oil
1 cup of water
A few drops of food colouring

Stir all the ingredients together until you get the right colour (it will get darker with cooking)
Cook in a pan until you get a stiff dough.
Leave to cool and knead until smooth.
Put in a plastic tub with a lid and don’t eat it!

It will keep for about 2 months

Something useful in MY blog?? Never!

So, in my bid to make my blog less whiney and a little more useful (mainly to me), I shall start putting up stuff like recipes.

So, it's that time of year again, time to make the Christmas cake for everyone who wants to get drunk off their cake. You need:

2 lb (1Kg) of dried fruit including raisins currents, sultanas cherries and mixed peel. Put in more of the bits you like best.
3tbs (50 ml) of brandy
3tbs (50 ml) of rum
3tbs (50 ml) of cointreau or any other orange flavour liqueur
8oz (225g) of butter
8oz (225g) of plain flour
8oz (225g) of soft dark brown sugar
1tbs mixed spice
1/2tbs nutmeg
Juice and rind of 1 orange and 1 lemon
4 eggs
1tbs black treacle
1/2tsp salt

Now, for the actual making there are two different methods:

Traditional Method

Put all the fruit, lemon and orange rind and juice and all the booze in a bowl and leave to soak over night or longer.
Next day, cream butter and sugar together and add eggs a bit at a time to avoid curdling
Add black treacle and sir in.
Sift in flour, salt and spices then mix.
Put into tin lined with grease proof paper and make a shallow hollow in the middle.
Tie brown wrapping paper around the outside of the tin to come about 2 ins above the rim the put a piece of grease proof with a small hole in the middle over the top.
Bake at gas mark 1 or 130 degrees for 4 to 4.5 hours.
Leave in tin to cool then leaving the grease proof on it wrap it in tin foil
Feed with brandy every week till Christmas
Marzipan and ice a few days before Christmas

Siobhan's Method

Put all the fruit, lemon and orange rind and juice, all the booze, the butter and the sugar in a saucepan and boil
Wait for it to cool
Add eggs and treacle and stir to a sticky goo
sift in flour, salt and spices then mix
Put into tin lined with grease proof paper and make a shallow hollow in the middle.
Tie brown wrapping paper around the outside of the tin to come about 2 ins above the rim the put a piece of grease proof with a small hole in the middle over the top.
Bake at gas mark 1 or 130 degrees for 4 to 4.5 hours.
Leave in tin to cool then leaving the grease proof on it wrap it in tin foil

Feeding is not supposed to happen with this cake (so you can actually make it in december) but everything is better with more brandy in, so if you like feed it brandy till Christmas.

I have a new haricut, it is short again.
The hairdresser was rather rude about the condition of my hair, and told me that if i didn't stop dying it then one day i would wake up and it would stay on the pillow. She is probably right. On the other hand it should be ok now the bleached bits have been cut off and so it shall stay red, just with mile long roots before it get re-dyed.
Photos may appear on facebook at some point in the future.

NEW FLAT!!

Andrew and I went to look at a flat today.
It is on Glen Street, just of Lauriston place, so really close to George square for 2011, and close to... well everything really.
Its ground floor with a garden front and back, unfurnished, 2 bed, and has been totally refurbished.
Its so beautiful inside, the walls and carpets all through are shades of cream, and the bathroom is newly tiled with one of those fold out glass shower things over the bath, not a shower curtain.
Its got a lovely big lounge, with working fireplace, and the second bedroom is quite small but has enough room for a single bed plus wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside table and enough room left over to use it like a real bedroom not a box.
The bedrooms face east (so the back garden gets morning sun) and the lounge faces west (so evening sun for the front garden). Its also about a ten second walk from the meadows so it doesn't really matter except for the planting schemes.
The kitchen is also newly done with all brand new appliances, and a proper air sucky thing over the cooker and a huge fridge freezer. Its all cream and wood and looks really very posh.
There are pictures on my phone, but i can't find the cable to put them up.
Oh, and its only £650/month.

So, I got the results back from the endoscopy today. I was not pleased.
The bacteria test came back negative, and so I am getting booked in for an MRI scan of what was described on my results as a "Possible deformity of the duodenum".
On the upside, its not IBS.
I'm off camping today with my Beltane peoples. Anna was very nice yesterday, it was time to pay Anna and Yan back for the materials that have been bought for the group, and she took me aside and said that I didn't have to pay my share because they knew that I have barely enough money to eat, and they were my Beltane family now and that's what families did.
Not what my real family does...
